Increase Your Chances of Becoming a Mystery Shopper

When searching for a flexible job in a more enjoyable environment, you may find that mystery shopping is the perfect choice for you. Whether you are a college student in need of a part-time job, a stay-at-home mom or dad, or someone who needs to supplement your current income, you can become a mystery shopper.

The hiring process for mystery shopping is rather competitive these days due to the perks. It is therefore important that you create strategic ways to get hired, despite the number of applicants applying for the same jobs.  But, how do you get hired? How do you increase your chance of getting hired and receiving assignments?

  1. Look for legitimate mystery shopping companies. Needless to say, you won’t be receiving any shopping assignments if you sign up with a scam company.  So, if you encounter a company that accepts registration payments, watch out. These companies will simply take your money and never give you any assignment at all.
  2. Follow instructions. If you are required to fill out a registration form or submit a resume, do it completely and as requested. Complete and thorough applications have a greater chance of turning into mystery shopping assignments because there are no questions or missing information. It is also a good indicator that you are able to follow instructions for future assignments.
  3. Pay attention to small details. Double check for grammatical errors or words that may be misspelled in your application. Mystery shopping companies are looking for people who are good with details, and basic mistakes like that will send up a red flag.
  4. Utilize social media networks to find reliable mystery shopping companies and widen your reach. Join Linkedin groups that feature mystery shopping to get good recommendations on where to apply. You can even obtain tips from shoppers that are already experienced in the field.
  5. EDUCATE yourself! In keeping with the advice of our previous blogs this month, education is paramount for achieving and maintaining a successful mystery shopping business. This should start from the get-go! The more educated you are on mystery shopping; what it does, how it works, what you do, requirements, etc. the more likely you will be to be selected as a mystery shopper. Why? The company you are applying with will feel confident sending you, as a well educated shopper, out to their clients.
