Social Media and Mystery Shopping

When we want to know something about a particular person or company, gone are the days when we have to grab our phone directory and do a bit of investigation. Now, all we have to do is search the internet, and we can find loads of information. One of the places we can find a lot of information very easily is social media sites. There, we can find personal information and updated posts about what’s going on with that person or business.

Mystery shoppers can also do the same when it comes to their shopping assignments. Now, with the use of social media sites and business websites, mystery shoppers can learn more about the establishment they are assigned to before they go, so they can prepare themselves for their visit.

The good thing about social media is the interactive platform that connects customers and businesses. Updates and comments from existing customers can be utilized by secret shoppers to understand the business, get a feel for their current reputation, and learn other important details that their website may not contain. For instance, a client may post a concern about an employee or the service that they received. Those real scenarios can help secret shoppers gather more information that they can use to create a more comprehensive report.

Of course, as mystery shoppers, it is important that we also do our job and don’t just rely on information from the internet. Use the information on social media as a guideline for how to approach your shopping visit strategically. Always be well-prepared because it will make you a more successful mystery shopper.
