Following Directions – Look, Listen, Ask

direction successFor those shoppers who consistently read through all of their material and follow the guidelines to a point, we thank and applaud you. But believe it or not, we find many times shoppers miss very important details that are required for an assignment.

  • Scenarios and specifics for shops are not designated by the mystery shopping companies, they are given to us by the client. The client wants a question asked a specific way or for the timing to be very exact on a service because these are the standards they have set for their employees, and the mystery shopper is sometimes the only person who can tell them if these standards are being met.
  • Details, details, details. This can’t be stressed enough. You truly do need to go into the restroom and check the dispensers. You do need to listen to the responses to note if the representative did ask, “Is there anything else I can help you with today?” You must specify if they asked where you heard of their company. Each of this type of question is as important as the next, and the client wants to have that “fly on the wall” view of what occurred during your visit.
  • Payments. When we receive a report that does not have complete details or response, WE will not be paid for that report, and therefore, many times, if you cannot validate why you did not look, listen or ask as instructed, we cannot pay YOU! This is not a happy moment in our day or week. We LOVE to pay our shoppers, because YOU are what keep our business going.

The next time you receive an assignment, read the instructions as though it was your first shop ever.  That way, you will be sure to know what to look, listen and ask for – and receive your payment at the end of the month!
