Acts of Kindness

kindnessThe season of LOVE is upon us. We are reminded this week to shower our loved ones with hearts, flowers and chocolate.

But how about those people that we meet when we are mystery shopping? And just out and about doing our daily grind?

Simple – Acts of Kindness.

A simple act of kindness goes a lot, lot further than a caramel filled chocolate heart.

Whether or not you are mystery shopping, sharing a simple act of kindness – opening a door, shoveling a drive, cleaning snow off a car, or paying for someone’s hot drink – these are the actions that make a difference in the world.

When writing up your mystery shop reports, keeping kindness in mind is important as well. Your reports are read by multiple levels of management in our client’s companies. Some are even tacked to bulletin boards in break rooms or posted in the firm’s on line community forum.

Certainly you should tell us when something did not go as expected. Or if the store is unclean and messy. Or the food is not cooked as ordered.

But stating it as a simple observation, instead of peppering it with nasty adjectives, is truly the right thing to do.

You can say you were disappointed. You can even say you wouldn’t return to this establishment.

But there is no place for insult and injury in a mystery shopping report.

This week, and every week, let’s keep it simple.

Conduct your shops. Write your reports. Be observant. Be truthful. Be kind.

Then go and smile at someone who needs a smile. Sometimes all it takes to make someone feel good is a smile! And you’ll feel good too!

It really will make for a better world!

Happy Valentine’s Day!
